The final event organised within the project was the Satellite Symposium “European Networking for Brain Research”, held on 2 September 2025 as part of the 17th International Congress of the Polish Neuroscience Society (link).
The event featured a presentation of the SAME-NeuroID project consortium, showcasing the results achieved throughout the project. It also included a panel on the Pathway to Synergies project PANERIS, which aims to strengthen research and innovation capacities in neuroscience within Widening Countries by examining the impact of obesity and addiction on brain health across the lifespan. The project addresses key public health challenges through a multidisciplinary approach, advancing understanding of these conditions and supporting the development of effective interventions.
A key part of the programme was the panel “Access of Poland to European Networks and Infrastructure”, which brought together representatives of EATRIS, EBRAINS, the European Commission, and the Polish Ministry of Science and Higher Education (MNiSW). The discussion examined the functioning of European Research Infrastructures (RIs), assessed opportunities and challenges for Central and Eastern European countries, and focused in particular on Poland’s participation. The panel highlighted major financial, administrative, and organisational barriers limiting effective involvement and explored strategies for strengthening Poland’s contribution to collaborative infrastructures in neuroscience. The participation of the MNiSW representative was especially significant, ensuring that the identified challenges and recommendations were communicated directly to policymakers.
The Satellite Symposium successfully fulfilled its objective of enhancing dialogue between researchers, infrastructure representatives, and policymakers. By presenting the outcomes of SAME-NeuroID, highlighting synergies with complementary initiatives such as PANERIS, and facilitating a substantive policy-focused discussion, the event strengthened Poland’s visibility within the European neuroscience landscape. It also laid the groundwork for future cooperation and more strategic integration of Polish research teams within European Research Infrastructures.
